The White House Announces Local Food, Local Places

Today, the White House Rural Council announced a new program called Local Food, Local Places.  It is a new initiative aimed at stimulating the rural economy through building sustainable local food systems.   What?  Sound familiar?  🙂

The program offers support as well as funding to those communities who qualify.  The submissions are due in by July 15th but are fairly straightforward.  We thought this would be a good opportunity to partner with you to create the application for Muncie and Delaware County.  How does that sound for interesting?

Here’s the idea.   We have created a collaboration document on Google Docs to host the application letter.  We will begin to draft the letter from the perspective of what Farmished will do.  If you are willing to help Muncie and Delaware County win, respond to us privately with your email address and let us know you are willing to help.  We will share the online document with you and you can edit it directly.  You can add what you or the organization you represent are willing to do.

Here are some things to remember:

This is a community letter.  Not from Farmished, not from you, or anyone, but from us all.

The letter should describe our needs as a community and our goals related to local food, revitalization of our downtown and traditional neighborhoods.

It should include your name under the contacts as either a member of the community who is willing to participate and/or your organization that is willing to participate.

So, for example, you can add to the letter what you think we need and what your goals are for us as a community.  You would then add your name as a contact willing to participate in meeting the need and goal you added.

Don’t worry about format or form while we collaborate.  We will save some time at the end to tidy things up before submission.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask via email or social media messaging.

We will close the letter on July 8th to give us time to tidy up and make final edits before submission.
