We wanted to get you an update on how things are going with Farmished and the Urban Training Farm. In April we secured our tractor and were leaning hard into our plans to get the rest of the equipment for the start of the compost program. We were also anxiously awaiting the results from our Phase II and Hazardous Material environmental inspection so that we could get some volunteers out to the site to safely start cleaning things up. We even got some signs made and posted around the property to let people know that things were in progress! When the results were in from the study however, we have found that there are some hazardous materials that we didn’t expect that will cause the cleanup to be more complicated. This has delayed our plans for the summer so far. We are hard at work however with some great environmental minds in the state helping us with a strategy to get this site secured and safe. While this is a setback in timing for us, we plan to work with the city, state, and private organizations that do this kind of thing all the time to come up with a plan that will transform this site into something productive for our community. We appreciate your continued support and can use all the help and encouragement you have for this project.
Thank you and have a great summer!
